The band saw is very very light and must be bolted to the workbench to do any work. Even though the blade guide goes up to allow for 3" thick material, do not expect to do anything larger than 1/4" brass or aluminum. When I tried to feed 1/2" aluminum bar the saw really struggled and made sad noises. The saw quickly developed blade-tracking problems and more importantly it would refuse to to start without me manually giving the blade-wheels a push. And this is only after a few hours of operation! I tried to adjust and readjust to no avail, The saw just refuses to keep the blade tracking. It is, as mentioned in another review, a breaching tool, and most of the characteristics noted as "flaws" by those using it as anything else are ones which exist as part of the flawlessly designed, compact breaching tool that it is. Personally, I have a fascination with the modern, shorter tomahawks being produced by a few companies at present, and bought mine before setting off on a trip around the country. The trip involved a lot of camping, during which I used my Killian pretty much the way in which a more practical person would use a hatchet and/or large fixed blade like the Ka-Bar/Becker BK-9. You basically have these choices: 1) saw with a fiber cement blade 2) hand snips 3) shear attachment for a drill 4) fiber cement shears. You can use a saw, but why would you want to? It's very messy, the expensive blades dull quickly and you need to wear a mask to keep from breathing in all that dust. Hand snips are OK for a couple of cuts, but they're tedious and slow. The shear attachments like the Malco TSFC are OK for small jobs too, but they're not as durable as dedicated shears. So basically if you've got more than just a handful of cuts to make, then go for these.Once you've decided to take the plunge and pony up the considerable dough there are a few brands that make similar products. This is a great tool and the refurb job is just like new. I used a paddle bit to get the job done, but make sure to purchase a self-feeding bit. Two speeds are forward/reverse. The top of the drill states made in the USA, I am assuming the whole drill is, not just the gearbox? I dropped the drill and it just dented the floor, not the drill. Well built.
